Massachusetts Medicaid Fraud Scams

Indictments of 10 individuals from four private health care providers were handed down in late September 2011 by three Massachusetts grand juries arising from a series of Medicaid fraud schemes that cost Massachusetts tax payers nearly $10 million.

The indictments allege that the Massachusetts Medicaid system, MassHealth, was improperly billed for care supposedly provided to dead patients, for kickback schemes involving unnecessary drug tests, and for claims relating to assisting nursing home residents with walking and eating, when the particular residents for which claims were submitted were capable of doing these things on their own.

The healthcare providers employing the indicted individuals are: Adlife Healthcare; Preventative Medicine Associates; Mitchell Counseling Services; and Wetterberg Nursing Homes through its Pond View Nursing Facility in Boston.
